Kill the Scripter is a boss battle themed game that has the player go up against The Scripter as he tries to throw the player around and prevent you from getting to him. This article is talking about the latest version of the game. (Beta 0.313)
The player spawns upon the outskirts of Wivelle, a town under direct control of The Scripter. The Scripter is floating in the middle of the map, surrounded by homes, trees, clouds, and other decorative objects. There is a billboard infront of the player that describes where they are in relation to the rest of the Wiven World. One of the locations is crossed out. There is a secret easter egg placed somewhere around the map aswell. The sky boasts a gloomy green hue over a normal skybox; above a grassy yet ever darkening plain.
You must kill The Scripter, quite simple. In order to stop it, you must slash it with Danes sword 20 times, lowering his health by 5 each slash. The ending of the game doesnt have the player actually kill The Scripter, but instead damage his laptop. Once he has been defeated, The Scripter will teleport away.
Dane speaks to the player during the intro and before attacks, letting the player know whats coming in the next few seconds. His intro starts like this:
"Hey Friend! Its Me, Dane! (Click To Continue). That Ova There Is The Scripter! And Hes Taken Over Wivelle! You Must Stop Him! He Is Gonna Run A Few Commands On Ye That Will Do Some Crazy Stuff, But He Can Still Be Defeated! I Can Only Do So Much, Like Telling You His Next Moves... So Its Up To YOU! Good Luck!"
Dane then begins to describe the commmand The Scripter is about to run. Here are all possible commands:
1. "He's Gonna Fling Ye!"
The player will be launched in an upward direction no matter the position, even breaking through blocks.
2. "Watch Out! He's Gonna Launch You!"
The player will be sent flying in the direction you are facing in that moment. This can act as a boost or a nuisance depending on how you use it.
3. "He's Throwing Down A Blockade!"
A random brick cube will spawn somewhere around the map, whether that be in the sky, near The Scripter, or on the ground.
4. "STOP! He's Placing A Tower Infront Of Ye!"
A tower will be generated to the north of the player instead of the way you are facing. This acts as a barrier of sorts and is meant to stop you from moving. With enough speed however, this can actually trap the player within its hitbox.
5. "He's Summoning A Minion!"
This command summons a copy of Dyn to go after your player, spawning above The Scripter. Upon contact, it will fling the player upwards
6. "Be Careful, He's Changing Your Movement!"
This means your character will be given random movement values for a few seconds. This can affect your jump height, speed, friction, gravity, acceleration, etc.
After the battle has been won, Dane will end with this dialogue:
"YOU DID IT! This Wont Be The Last We See Of 'Em, But Im Sure We Can Handle Him Next Time Too. Great Work, Lad."
WASD is the base way to move in all Wiven games, and clicking usually interacts with the clicked object if possible. V is the universal next dialogue button, however in this game, you must click the laptop to continue Dane's dialogue. Arrow keys to look around, but pressing T will give you some mouse based options. Press T once to drag the camera around, press T again to have the camera follow the mouse, and pressing it again causes the camera selection to reset back to Arrow keys. Using these, that covers all you really need to know about this game.
The first instance of Kill the Scripter was created on September 10th 2023, and it was finished on September 17th 2023, at 4:01 AM! A youtube video was posted later that day, showcasing the game in its entirely. Not much other than visuals would change up until the Beta's release. The only noticable changes between that video and now is the old Scripter sprite, the standard skybox, and the outdated voicelines. While those may be old, the concept for KTS itself wasnt even thought of until February 21st, 2023! Can you believe it?
